Flat-tracking is the original extreme American motorsport, one of the oldest forms of motorcycle racing still around. Its popularity waned when road racing took over in the mid-’70s, but in recent years, the sport has seen a resurgence. Royal Enfield, looking to make its mark, partnered with American Flat Track in the US – and closer to home, launched the Slide School in India.
I got to attend the inaugural edition at Bengaluru’s Big Rock Dirtpark, guided by Johnny Lewis, AMA Pro racer and founder of Moto Anatomy. The day was a deep dive into the thrill of flat-tracking, giving riders of all levels a chance to feel what it’s like to slide a bike around a dirt track at speed.
